It's official: Valve's annual Steam Winter Sale has finally arrived.
Steam sales are renowned for their deep discounts and are generally an excellent opportunity to stock up on gifts for yourself or any gamers on your holiday shopping list.
The Steam Store is currently experiencing heavy traffic, so you may want to wait awhile and check back in a few hours. However, a few deal highlights include:
Traditionally, Steam sales discount both classic and newer titles. Last year's winter sale discounted titles such as The Witcher: Enhanced Director's Cut (85 percent off), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (75 percent off), and King's Quest: Episode 1 (90 percent off).
Steam's Thanksgiving sale, which ended on November 29, saw similar discounts on classics like Grand Theft Auto and Sid Meier's Civilization 6.
This year's Winter Sale begins on the same day that voting commences for the Steam Awards. Each day through December 29, gamers will be able to vote for a game in one of 12 categories. The categories include The Test of Time Award, The Game Within a Game Award, and The "I'm Not Crying There's Something in My Eye" Award. Today gamers will vote on the Villain Most in Need of a Hug. The winners will be announced on New Year's Eve.
The sale was originally announced via Twitter by PayPal UK, which also got the correct start date for the Steam 2015 Winter Sale.
